Property-tax bills fall for most in King County
After watching the value of their houses drop dramatically for more than two years, King County homeowners are finally seeing their property taxes go down, the assessor's office reported.

Ameco Beijing Wins More United Overhauls
Ameco Beijing will overhaul United Airlines’ Boeing 747s, as well as the carrier’s 777s, for which it already does heavy maintenance. The 777 work, under a five-year contract signed in 2005, will be extended for a further five years. Heavy maintenance on the 747s will also last for five years.
The Chinese maintenance operator, owned by Air China and Lufthansa Technik, says it has also won a contract to provide C-check services for Aeroflot’s four 767-300ERs. Ameco has expanded massively in the past few years — but unfortunately brought its new hangars into service last year amid the global recession. Although Chinese commercial aviation began recovering long before airlines elsewhere, the Aeroflot and additional United work will help Ameco with the challenge of filling its new capacity. One of the new hangars is a painting and overhaul facility sized for 747s. Another, for the moment used only for line maintenance, can accept Airbus A380s.

Negotiations Update
Bargaining Moves to San Francisco
Negotiations resumed this week in San Francisco. Bargaining took place on Tuesday, February 2nd and Wednesday February 3rd. During the two days of negotiations sub-committees reconvened to discuss Article 4, Article 5, as well as Training. The entire negotiating team would like to thank SFO Inspector Kevin Sloan for participating in the Article 4 sub-committee discussions and providing expertise on inspector issues.
Upcoming Negotiations Dates
The parties have a greed to take a recess during the week of February 8th an reconvene on February 16th in San Francisco.

Planes with maintenance problems have flown anyway

Alerted by a brake warning light in the cockpit, the captain on a U.S. airline flight last August warned passengers he was making an emergency landing and called for firetrucks to be standing by.
The trucks weren't needed, it turned out. The Boeing 767-300 jet landed safely, the pilot said in his account to NASA's Aviation Safety Reporting System, which allows airline employees to report incidents confidentially and without identifying the airline or the flight.
The pilot reported that he later was told by mechanics that the incident was caused by a landing-gear wheel that was missing a part and had been installed incorrectly.
The passengers on the unidentified international flight were on a jet that should never have left the ground. Improper repair work made it unsafe to fly. It was no isolated incident.
During the past six years, millions of passengers have been on at least 65,000 U.S. airline flights that shouldn't have taken off because planes weren't properly maintained, a six-month USA TODAY investigation has found.
